C Zebulon Debutante First in 23 Years Zebulon’s first debutante since 1940 will make her debut next month at the North Carolina Deb utante Ball in Raleigh. Lois Diana Chamblee will be one of the beauties to be presented at the ball, to be held on September 5-6-7, and sponsored by the Terp sichorean Club of Raleigh. When Miss Chamblee, a lovely green-eyed blonde, walks across stage and is presented a dozen red roses, she will be wearing a 100 per cent pure silk ball gown of a pearl tone fashioned in the Em pire style. The gown has a low cut back, and the skirt is semi full with a slight bustle effect in the back. The neck is rounded, and the Empire bodice is supported with half-inch shoulder straps. The dress was purchased in Washington, D. C. Another dress the 19-year-old petite young lady was considering was one that Janet Auchincloss (Jackie Kennedy’s half-sister) bought for her debut in Newport. Miss Chamblee is the first debu tante from Zebulon since Margar et Bunn (Mrs. Armstrong Canna dy) and Kay Kemp (Mrs. Bruce Hodges) were presented to socie ty. Three aunts of Miss Chamblee, the late Mrs. Hazel Chamblee Her ring, Mrs. Doris (BuTke) Cham blee McConnell of Darien, Conn., and Mrs. Melba (Paul) Chamblee Wright of Durham, also made their debuts at the Raleigh ball. Miss Chamblee and her mother plan to arrive in Zebulon on Sep tember 4 for the three-day festivi ties in the capital city. Miss Chamblee is a rising sopho more at East Carolina College. This summer she is working as a life-saver at a pool near her home in Falls Church, Va. John W. Liles, Jr., of Raleigh, a cousin, will be her chief mar shal. Her assistant marshal will be Ben Josey of Milledgeville, Ga. She is the daughter of Mrs. Frederick Chamblee and the late Mr. Chamblee. Her grandmother, Mrs. M. B. Palmer, home ec instructor at Wakelon School, at tended a vocational home econom ics conference for vocational home economics teachers last week at Woman’s College in Greensboro. Miss Palmer said the theme was the concept of teaching home eco nomics. * Mrs. Helen Gregory is visiting her son and his family this sum mer, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Gregory at Atlanta. ♦ Dunnie McBride of Sanford is spending the week with his aunt and uncle and cousins, Dr. and Mrs. Ben Thomas. Dunnie is the son of Dr. Thomas’ sister. * Mrs. Stuart Bailey of Richmond was the weekend guest of her sister, Mrs. George Tucker, and Dr. Tucker. Kim Tucker returned to Richmond with her aunt for a week’s visit with her grandpar ents, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Ander son. * Robert Hester has been visiting his sister, Mrs. Sidney Eddins, and Mr. Eddins and Ginny. Rob ert is on the faculty of Richmond Professional Institute. * Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Eddins pnd Ginny, Robert Hester and Mrs. Margaret Charlesworth Stanley made a tour of Tryon’s Palace in New Bern Sunday. * Dr. Lee Sedwitz, Wendell-Zebu lon Hospital surgeon, leaves Fri day for a week lecturing on asthma operation and observing in Mexico, California, and Denver. * Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong Can nady and sons are vacationing this week in the mountains of North Carolina. * Mrs. Allan Pippin, Jr., is vaca tioning for two weeks at her home in Wakefield. * Mrs. John Terry left Tuesday to spend the rest of this week with her sister, Mrs. F. R. Conyers of Rocky Mount. * Mrs. M. B. Chamblee has be come a great-grandma for the sixth time. On August 4 her granddaughter, the former Mary Lou Liles, gave birth to a son. And on July 26 another granddaughter, the former Hazel Herring, adopt ed a son. And lo, another grand daughter is expecting in October. • Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Logan were overnight guests of Dr. and Mrs. Perry Grogan and children last Sunday. Mrs. Logan is the sister of Dr. Grogan. Mr. and Mrs. Lo gan were enroute to their home in Coral Gables, Fla. * Mr. and Mrs. Roy Beck spent last weekend at Myrtle Beach. Couples Bridge Club Honored By Tuckers Dr. and Mrs. George Tucker were hosts recently to the Satur day Night Couples Bridge Club at their home. Exquisite arrange ments of roses, asters, gladioli and marigolds were used for dec oration. Playing were Mr. and Mrs. How ard Beck, Mr. and Mrs. Ferd Da vis, Dr. and Mrs. Ben Thomas, Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Finch and Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong Cannady. Mr. and Mrs. Bill Ammons were guests. Prizes were awarded to Mr. and Mrs. Davis, high; and Mr. and Mrs. Finch, low. Mr. and Mrs. Ammons were remembered with a gift. i Following three progressions the hosts served mocha angel crunch, ham-olive log on party crackers, pickled mushrooms, cheese straws, cocktail tomatoes, and coffee. Dur ing the progressions candies and Cokes were passed. When machine washing small put them in an old nylon stocking, tie knot in open Mid, they wiU #tay together and wash ju*t as clean.
